Aqours Housing[]

Aqours builds a doghouse for Shiitake!

Story 1

Chika: Mm-mmm! What a beautiful day. The typhoon blew away all the bad weather!

Chika: The forecast isn't for any more rain, either. We can finally go outside and practice again!

Chika: I hope school goes by quick. *Giggle* I'm heading out! Bye!

Chika: Huh? What the... Ah... Aaah!

Dia: One, two, three! Okay! Now turn!

Riko, Chika: Eek!

You: A-Are you two okay?!

Chika: Y-Yeah. I'm sorry, Riko. Are you hurt?

Riko: No, I'm fine. And I'm the one who should apologize. I got off-tempo.

Dia: Actually, Chika was the one who was off.

Yoshiko: It looked like they were in sync to me.

Kanan: Nope, Chika was a just a bit too early.

Dia: It seems like you're having trouble concentrating. In which case, we could do this a thousand times

and you still wouldn't remember it.

Chika: *Whine* I'm sorry...

You: Chika, do you have something on your mind?

Chika: Well... The truth is....

You: Say what? Shiitake's doghouse...

Riko: Got destroyed?!

Chika: The roof got blown to pieces, and now it's strewn all around the yard.

Chika: We've put a cardboard roof on for now, but it's just a quick and temporary fix.

Kanan: I guess it's not surprising. With the typhoon, we've had tons of wind and rain up until yesterday.

Riko: B-But Shiitake's okay, right?

Chika: Yup. Shiitake stayed inside with us the whole time until the storm had passed.

Dia: So you've been preoccupied with Shiitake's doghouse this whole time?

Chika: Yeah. I mean, that dog can't sleep under a cardboard roof forever. I feel bad for poor Shiitake.

Chika: It's a pretty old doghouse to begin with. I'm scared that the next time it gets damaged, Shiitake

might be hurt.

Chika: So, i figured I'd take the initiative and give Shiitake's doghouse an upgrade!

You: Ooh!

Mari: Wonderful! So you're building Shiitake a new home?

Hanamaru: Oh, is that why...

Riko: What?

Hanamaru: During lunch break, Chika came to the library and asked where the books on building and

construction were, so I showed her.

Hanamaru: I was shocked, zura. I never would've expected Chika to have any interest in books like that!

Yoshiko: Construction? Are you planning on building the new doghouse yourself?

Ruby: I saw her, too. She looked so focused, I couldn't bring myself to interrupt her.

Ruby: Although at one point, she did fall asleep.

Chika: Ah, ha, ha! I figured if I'm going to build Shiitake a new house, I might as well go all the way and make it into a really special present.

You: It's like a dog's equivalent to a person's room. You want your room to be nice.

Dia: Well, I understand the situation now, but it's still no excuse for zoning out during practice.

Dia: I promise we'll all think about how to solve Shiitake's doghouse problem on the way home. For now, stay focused on the task at hand!

Chika: Okay...

Mari: Oh, don't be so harsh. If she's got this on her mind, it's better to dedicate all her energy to it first

Dia: What are you saying, Mari?

Mari: I'm saying, if her mind is preoccupied, no amount of practice is going to get her to shift her focus,

Mari: If it's important enough to her that she's willing to ignore practice of all things, I think she'd better solve this other problem first.

Mari: Then and only then will Chika feel free and clear of her burdens and be able to focus on practicing again.

Chika: Mari... Yeah! You're right. I want to build Shiitake a new house as soon as I can!

Kanan: Ha, ha. Looks like we've got no choice but to go along with Mari.

Dia: Grrr...

You: Chika, Chika! We'll help, too!

Chika: Huh? Really? You don't mind?

Riko: Many hands make light work, right?

Dia: That's true. And we can't work on that last section without Chika.

Dia: I suppose we'll have to follow Mari's advice and help Chika solve her problem so that we can resume practice as quickly as possible.

Ruby: Building a doghouse, huh? This is what people call a D project, right? I've never DIY'ed anything before... I hope I'm up for it.

Hanamaru: I'll do some research, zura. What'd you call it? Dee eye why? That sounds complicated. I'll do my best to gather references.

Mari: Don't worry! With all the Ohara family's connections, I can probably get a licensed architect to draw up a spectacular blueprint!

Yoshiko: Uhh, how extravagant are you trying to make this? Remember we're talking about a doghouse here.

Kanan: Well, first we've gotta settle on what specific kind of house we're gonna build. What'd you have in mind, Chika?

Chika: I thought about a lot of different options, but I feel a log cabin-style would be nice.

Chika It'd be like Shiitake's own little retreat! Heck, I might even want to spend a night in there myself.

Riko: In...Shiitake's doghouse.

You: Let's come up with some designs. We've got tomorrow off, so we can go to the home center to buy supplies.

Mari: I can't wait!

Story 2

Hanamaru: So this is a "home center"... It's like a store from the future, zura...

Yoshiko: Do you think any store with a foreign name is "from the future, zura"?

Ruby: Home centers sell all sorts of things. It's kind of exciting just to look around and wonder what it's all

for!

You: Chika, did you bring the shopping list we made yesterday?

Chika: Of course! I've got it right here! Let's see... Should we start with the plywood and lumber?

Riko: That would be the lumber department. The map says we have to walk straight ahead from the

Entrance.

Kanan: Wood is heavy and bulky. Why don't we save it for the end and get the other stuff first?

Dia: No window shopping, you all. Let's get in, buy what we came here for, and get out. Understood?

Mari: Diiii-a! Don't be so strict with everyone on our day off!

Dia: I'm not being strict! I've got a perfectly normal attitude!

Chika: C'mon, girls! Let's go!

Chika: Ooh, there's a whole wall full of vegetable seeds. Who know there were so many types of corn!

If I planted all of these, I'd Have a lifetime supply!

Hanamaru: A lifetime supply!

Dia: Don't stop in the middle of the aisle, you two!

Riko: Are we really going to be all right in here?

Chika: Hey, a pet supply section! Can we look down here?

You: That's not a bad idea. There might be something here we can use.

Riko: Wow, look at all the little pet toys. Ooh, a feather teaser toy for cats!

Chika: Now that I'm here, I feel like Shiitake's almost out of food. I wonder if they have the kind we feed

Shiitake...

Dia: Ahem. Chiii-kaaa?

Chika: I-I know, I know! I'm not...getting distracted.

Dia: We're going to have enough to carry back as it is, There will be no unplanned impulse purchases.

Kanan: Hey Chika, there're pet cages and stuff here. Maybe there's something down that way?

Chika: Lemme see. Oh, you're right! They have birdcages and carrying cases, too.

Riko: But these dog pens and cat cages and whatnot... Isn't everything around here for indoor use?

Chika: We won't know until we look. Let's see... Bingo!

Chika: This is an assembly kit.... "Log Cabin Doghouse." Log cabin! It's perfect!

You: If it's a kit, doesn't that mean everything we need to assemble it is included? That's great! Then we

can build Shiitake's new pad right away!

Chika: Hooray! Our dream house is gonna be a reality!

Kanan: You really sound like you're the one who's going to be living in it.

Chika: The design 's so adorable, too. I might just have to get this.

You: Ah, ha, ha! Love at first sight, huh?

Riko: Huh? Hang on, Chika, That kit...

Chika: Hmm?

Riko: It says, "for miniature dogs only."

Chika: What.

Ruby: *Squeal* Hamsters! How precious!

Hanamaru: They're so tiny! Look at them scurry around.

Hanamaru: Look, Yoshiko, look! That one's eating sunflower seeds!

Yoshiko: So round and fluffy... Urk! I-I give the little furball a lot of credit for managing to entrance Yohane.

Yoshiko: A-Although, I suppose such a high level of cuteness would look right at home next to Yohane. I

Might just have you into my inner circle!

Ruby: *Gasp* It looked at me! D-Dia, can-

Dia: Denied.

Ruby: Aww...

Dia: Back to shopping, everyone.

Mari: Oh, this rug is so soft and silky, I could get addicted to lying on this. Buy it! We have to buy it!

Kanan: Mari, you're always so quick to make impulse purchases... Oh! This little plushie is so cuddly. It's

making me want to take a nap...

You: Ruby, look! They've got crafting stuff down here!

Ruby: R-Really? *Gasp* That reminds me, I'm low on thread spools for my sewing machine. I should stock

up!

You: This fabric's so cute! I wonder if I can use it for our next set of costumes...

Yoshiko: Twist chains, short link chains... Heh, heh. We can make chain accessories with these. They'll be

perfect for projecting Yohane's dark aura!

Hanamaru: Wow, look at all the bookshelves, zura, Oh, the shelves inside this one move side to side.

Maybe it's only for really small books?

Riko: Huh? This is a small Shinto shrine for home use? They even sell home Shinto shrines at this place?!

Chika: Oh, look! They've got those things you use for flowing somen noodles! They're really long, too. Maybe we can do a long-distance flowing somen contest!

Riko: Chika, that's a rain gutter.

Dia: HEL-LOOOOOOOO! I Thought I told you all to stop getting distracted!

Chika: Hup! Whew. We sure bought a lot of stuff!

Riko: Wood, nails, paint... I think we've got everything we need.

You: I can't believe how late it is. We spent the whole day in there!

Dia: How can a simple trip to the home center be so exhausting?

Kanan: There, there. You did great.

Chika: Tomorrow, we're gonna take all this stuff we bought and start construction on Shiitake's new home! I'm counting on you all!

Story 3

You: Ahh. We've got great weather and no wind at all. A perfect day for building!

Chika: I'm back! I borrowed all the tools we'll need from the industrial arts classroom.

Riko: So the order is cut the wood, paint it, and assemble the pieces, right?

Mari: Mmm-hmm! Just holding a saw and hammer makes this feel like a real DIY project. I'm getting excited now!

Ruby: That reminds me, what does DIY mean again? Something to do with making things by hand?

Mari: It stands for "do it yourself." You're right on the money, Ruby. Let's roll up our sleeves and make a doghouse!

Chika: Sit tight, Shiitake. We're all gonna make you the most amazing doghouse ever! First, we cut this piece of wood...

Hanamaru: Wait a second! Make sure you measure it first, or it'll affect the rest of the project, zura!

Hanamaru: I've got the square right here. Let me set it up and mark the cutline. Chika, the plans!

Chika: Y-Yes ma'am!

Yoshiko: Square? Mark the line? Are we casting a spell?

Kanan: The square is that L-shaped tool. It's for measuring length, drawing straight lines, and so on. See the ruler marks on the surface?

Dia: And marking the cutline means drawing its edge to show where you need to cut, correct?

Ruby: Hrr... Ngh... *Whine* It won't cut!

Hanamaru: Ruby, don't push down so hard, zura. Just move it back and forth and let the saw do the work.

Hanamaru: Saws do most of the cutting when you pull them back, not push them forward, so push just a little bit on the pull stroke. And use the full length of the blade, zura.

Ruby: Y-Yes ma'am!

Yoshiko: You really know your stuff. Since when are you into all this?

Hanamaru: I went to the library after we got back last night, zura. My heart trembled as I absorbed the knowledge passed down by master woodworkers through the ages.

Yoshiko: What kind of books were these?

Mari: All right, then. Hanamaru will be the master craftswoman, and we'll be her apprentices. We're all ears, boss!

Hanamaru: M-Master?! What an awesome responsibility, zura...

Dia: Mari, watch what you're doing! You're going off track!

Chika: Wow! Riko, you did such a beautiful job painting!

Riko: Y-You think? I just did what I always do.

You: Riko's our resident artist, after all. Can you come work your magic on this next board please, Riko da Vinci?

Riko: D-Da Vinci? Flattery will get you nowhere.

Kanan: She says with a huge smile on her face...

Chika: I thought I just needed to slap some paint on the wood and it'd come out all right.

Chika: But there were so many different kinds of paint, it blew me away.

You: And some of them have ingredients that are bad for animals. I got worried when I saw we couldn't use some of them.

Kanan: Animals have much sharper senses than humans, so they're more sensitive. They might even try to lick the paint.

Kanan: You have to be very careful. We don't want any repeats of the time we almost bought a kit for a miniature doghouse.

Chika: And last but not least, the final nail... Done! It's finished!

Dia: We actually managed to put it together.

Ruby: That is so cool. It looks like a real log cabin! And we built it all by ourselves.

You: I'm exhausted, but I feel really accomplished, too. Like... We did it!

Kanan: It wasn't easy, but it was a lot of fun. Maybe I'll get into DIY stuff, too! Building a desk or chair might be cool.

Chika: And for the finishing touch, I've got a little something to put on the roof!

Riko: Chika, is that...

You: A mushroom... A shiitake mushroom!

Hanamaru: You grew a mushroom?

Kanan: Isn't that a lawn ornament?

Chika: Yup! I found it in the gardening section at the home improvement center. When I realized it was an actual shiitake, well...

Ruby: A shiitake mushroom on Shiitake's house.

Hanamaru: Brilliant!

Yoshiko: Just don't try to eat it.

Chika: You think it'll stay if I put it at the top?

Riko: It's got a flat bottom, so I guess it's not impossible...?

Mari: One lonely mushroom's not enough, don't you think? Let's add a little something.

You: What's that? Yikes, it's so bright!

Mari: *Chuckle* It's a Mari Ohara original nameplate! You can't have a house without your name on the front.

Riko: W-Wow... It's completely covered in rhinestones and pearls... It reflects so much sunlight, you can barely make it out.

Kanan: I was wondering what you were working on all by yourself in that corner. So that was it, huh?

Dia: More importantly, when on earth did you slip away to buy the supplies to make it?!

Ruby: It's hurting my eyes.

Chika: Mari, I can't thank you enough. This nameplate is gorgeous! Now everyone will know beyond a shadow of a doubt that this is Shiitake's house!

Mari: If you're happy, I'm happy! My eyes are really tired from focusing on all that detail work, though.

Chika: I'm gonna put it on right now. And then the mushroom on the roof, and... done. How does it look?

Hanamaru: It's quite... something, zura...

Chika: Thank you all so much for helping. It was a heck of a project, but it came out great. Seriously, thanks a million, everybody!

You: I hope Shiitake likes it.

Chika: Me too!

Yoshiko: H-Hey, not to rain on the parade, but... how exactly are we gonna carry this huge doghouse BACK?

Together: Uhh...

Story 4

Chika: One, two, three! Turn, and... pose!

Chika: Whew... Nailed it!

Riko: Yeah! That was perfect!

You: Sure was. Beautiful turn, by the way.

Dia: Wrong.

Kanan: Huh? She was in sync, wasn't she?

Dia: Yes, her timing was fine... But your movements are sloppy, Chika!

Chika: Huh?!

Ruby: R-Really? I didn't see anything wrong with them...

Dia: I saw a little hesitation in your footwork, which caused the rest of your movements to be slightly off. You did correct them in time to sync up at the end, though.

Dia: Is something on your mind again?

You: Dia's eyes are like high resolution security cameras.

Yoshiko: Be they heavenly eyes scanning the mortal world, or demon's eyes that peer into your mind, Yohane fears them not!

Hanamaru: Your voice is trembling, zura.

Mari: Dia's always extra severe when it comes to Aqours. Chika, what's the problem?

Chika: Ah... Ah, ha, ha. The truth us...

Riko: Shiitake again?

You: Won't go in the new house?

Chika: It's not like that all the time. At first, Shiitake went in just fine.

Chika: But ever since the first time, Shiitake doesn't bother going in very often. The poor thing seems kind of sad, too.

Riko: I see... If Shiitake looks sad, I see why you're worried.

Dia: And that's what's distracting you?

Chika: Yeah. Hey... Do you think Shiitake misses the old doghouse?

Mari: Hmm... Makes sense. Shiitake's having trouble getting used to the new digs.

Mari: I can sympathize. Sometimes, when I get a new outfit, I feel all weird and want to change into one of my old outfits!

Kanan: I don't follow...

Hanamaru: But Shiitake's old house got destroyed, right?

Chika: Yeah. But we haven't cleaned up the debris yet. We just moved them away from where they were originally.

Chika: And now...

You: You want to repair Shiitake's old house.

Chika: *Gasp*

You: Right? You want to give Shiitake the old, comfortable doghouse back.

Riko: Is that true?

Chika: Yeah... With everyone pitching in, we made the new house into something really special. I was sure that Shiitake would love it.

Chika: But I don't want to force Shiitake to live somewhere that isn't preferable.

Dia: *Sigh* Ninety-nine percent of the time, you wear your heart on your sleeve. You pick the oddest times to get shy.

Dia: Did we use up all the wood we bought?

Chika: Huh?

Riko: We've got a little paint left, but it's a different color than the old house.

Chika: U-Uhh...

Kanan: We really busted our butts carrying it back home last time. This time we'll be sure to do all the construction on site.

Yoshiko: Heh, heh. Yohane will step in once again to come to the aid of her little beast.

Ruby: Little beast?!

Hanamaru: You shouldn't give someone else's dog a weird name, zura.

Chika: A-Are you sure, everyone? You're really willing to help again?

Mari: Hi-yah! Super cheek-pinching attack!

Chika: Eek! Mwah-ree! Shtop it!

Mari: Why are you being so reserved? This isn't like you. We're all happy to step up and help our best friend's family!

Chika: But...

Mari: But nothing. Besides, whenever the nine of us get together and do something, we always have a blast.

Mari: So give us a big Chika smile and say, "Thank you, everyone!" like you always do.

Chika: *Sob* *Sob* W-Waaah! Thank you, everyone!

You: Aah! C-Chika, why're you crying?!

Chika: Mmm... Whew. This part's done!

Riko: Okay, we'll drop this down... Hngh.

You: Finished! Shiitake's old doghouse is back and better than ever!

Kanan: Things went a lot quicker the second time around.

Yoshiko: When Yohane gets serious, things get done.

Hanamaru: Yoshiko, you almost cut off your finger along with that board, remember?

Ruby: It's a good thing we caught you before it was too late.

Dia: All's well that ends well.

Chika: Everyone, really, thank you so much for helping!

Mari: You're very welcome! Now Shiitake can return to a life of leisure.

Chika: I'm so glad I have all of you.

Chika: Here, Shiitake! You've got your old house back!

Riko: H-Huh? Chika, stop! You don't have to call Shiitake over right this second! *Screech*
