Hanayo: You think so? I have such a good time it doesn't feel like work at all. Hanayo: How could it be work when they're so cute! Alpaca F: Haaaawwww. Rin: Sure, alpacas are cute, but it's too bad they can't shake hands or do other tricks like dogs. Hanayo: That's not true, Rin. They don't have to be able to shake hands. Just being there is enough. Rin: Hmm... Really? Rin: I bet if they could shake hands, they'd be more popular. Alpaca M: Haw? Alpaca F: Haawwww! Rin: Oops! I'm sorry. Don't be mad! Kotori: Poor alpaca... Kotori: I've been thinking. Alpaca M: Haw? Kotori: I keep wondering why it is that so few students come to see the alpacas when they're so adorable! Kotori: And Rin, when you said that just now, I finally made the connection. Kotori: If they could shake hands like a dog, the students might be more amenable to making friends with them. Kotori: Oh, hello everyone. Eli: Talking with the alpacas? Maki: Don't be silly, of course she isn't. Kotori: Ah ha ha... Actually... Eli: You're trying to teach the alpacas tricks? I'm speechless. Kotori: I want people to give the alpacas a little more love. Maki: But alpacas aren't dogs. They can't learn to do tricks, can they? Alpaca F: Haaaww. Kotori: Probably not normally... but I'll bet Hanayo can do it! Hanayo: Huh? Is everyone here to visit the alpacas? Kotori: Hanayo! Hanayo: Y-Yes?! Kotori: Hanayo, I want to become your disciple! Kotori: Yes! I'm going to be best friends with them, and then I'll teach them to shake hands! Umi: It's nice that you want to care for them, but teaching them to shake hands sounds like a tough job. Kotori: I know... but I think if I really bond with them, they'll put their hands in mine. Honoka: Hmm? Kotori, are you knitting something? Kotori: Yes! I'm making special hats just for the alpacas. Kotori: I thought giving them a hat might bring us a little closer together! Umi: They're animals, not Honoka. Gifts may not get you too far. Honoka: Umi... do you really think I'm that superficial?! Umi: N-No! Not at all! Umi: Ahem. Anyway, I already knew Hanayo liked them a lot, but I see you're a big fan of the alpacas too, Kotori. Kotori: Eek! Rin: Kotori's helping Hanayo take care of the alpacas. Kotori: That's right! She's teaching me all kinds of things. I use this notepad to keep tabs on their feeding habits, don't I? This is a very spiritual place! Rin: More spiritual power stuff? Kotori: So we really can communicate? Okay then, mister alpaca, remember what we just talked about. Alpaca F: Haw. Hanayo: Sorry we're starting so early again today. Kotori: I don't mind! I'm here to do my part, after all. Alpaca M: Haw. Alpaca F: Haaaaaw. Kotori: I'm at your service! Anytime, anywhere! Just point me in the right direction! Hanayo: Thank you! You have no idea what a huge help that is. I'll hold you to that, all right? Kotori: Good morning, Hanayo! How're our furry friends doing today? Hanayo: Thank you, Kotori! So sorry I asked you to come help on a school holiday. Hanayo: Not a crumb left. Looks like they're doing just fine. Kotori: Wonderful! After we clean up the stables, let's get changed and meet up with the rest of µ's for practice. Alpaca M: Haw. Alpaca F: Haaaaw. Kotori: Have you learned the trick yet? Shake hands, mister alpaca! Alpaca M: Haw! Kotori: Eek! That tickles! Kotori: I think shaking hands is just too hard for them. Hanayo: Good morning, Kotori. Windy today, isn't it? Kotori: Are the alpacas gonna be okay? Hanayo: I'm worried their food might get blown away. Let's put some tarps around the stable. Kotori: You got it! Kotori: The wind might get loud, but don't be scared. Everything'll be fine. Alpaca F: Hawww. Kotori: A rainstorm... Another crummy day. Poor alpacas! Hanayo: The roof's covered up, so they should be all right... But I sure hope the weather clears up soon. Alpaca M: Haaaw. Alpaca F: Hawwwww... Kotori: Have no fear! We'll make sure you stay dry. And look at all this soft, tasty grass I brought you. Alpaca M: Haaaawww! Kotori: We'll make the most of this rainy day. Kotori: Sure, we're not making much progress learning to shake hands, but I do feel like we're growing a little closer. Kotori: Or maybe... it's just my imagination. Alpaca F: Hawww. Hanayo: Thank you so much for coming to help every day, Kotori. You've really made things a lot easier for me. Hanayo: Not only have you cut my workload in half, your company makes the time fly by. Kotori: Really? It makes me happy to know you feel that way. Kotori: I never had any idea you worked so hard tending to the alpacas. Being in the animal caretaking club is no joke! Hanayo: It certainly has its share of challenges, but that's to be expected. Hanayo: Kotori, did you know alpacas are indigenous to the Andes mountains of South America? Kotori: Wow, really? So they're used to living at much higher altitudes, huh? Hanayo: Yes. These alpacas travelled a great distance to come live with us at Otonokizaka. They'd have a much easier life if they were back in the Andes. Kotori: Oh... that makes sense. Hanayo: Since they've gone through so much just to be here, I'm not only in this for myself. I feel it's my responsibility to do so. Kotori: I see... Hanayo: They've entrusted me with their very lives. Taking good care of them is a given! Kotori: Yes... You're absolutely right, Hanayo. Kotori: They're not mere toys. They're living, breathing creatures that coexist with us. Alpaca M: Haw? Kotori: Hanayo. Hanayo: Hmm? Kotori: Would you be open to the idea of me as your permanent helper? Kotori: My heart wasn't in this as much as you when I started... Kotori: ...but listening to you has inspired me to want to keep helping out. Hanayo: Of course you can! Kotori: Oh, that's wonderful! Thank you, Hanayo! Kotori: Huh? It was just pouring rain, but now the sun's peeked out behind the clouds. Hanayo: Wow, you're right. Well then, let's take advantage and go for a stroll in the courtyard. Rin: Okay! Honoka: Wanna walk home together, everyone? Kotori: I was going to check on the alpacas first. Hanayo: I'll go with you, Kotori. Umi: Kotori, you've been going with Hanayo to tend to the alpacas every day lately. Nozomi: Why don't we go with them? Eli: Good idea. In fact, if we're going, why don't we all pitch in too? Honoka: Ooh, I like the sound of that! Maki: Just so long as we're only helping with their care. If this is going to be about making them shake hands again, I object. Nozomi: But if they learned to shake hands, their popularity would explode overnight! Imagine how many more people would apply to Otonokizaka next year! Eli: Y-You really think so?! Umi: Eli... please don't get swept up in Nozomi's fantasies. Umi: More importantly, feeding them and caring for their well-being might prove a daunting task for us. Rin: Yeah, but we can help with stuff like carrying over the grass they eat! Hanayo: Yes! And I'm sure the alpacas will be delighted to have everyone come visit! Kotori: Then it's settled. Let's all go see the alpacas. Kotori: Time to brush that coat of yours. Don't worry, this won't hurt a bit. Alpaca M: Haw. Maki: How's this? The brush doesn't hurt, does it? Alpaca F: Haw. Hanayo: You're doing fine, Maki. She seems happy. Maki: You think so? I suppose you'd know, being one of the primary caretakers and all. Nico: So in the end, you couldn't teach them how to shake hands, Kotori? Kotori: Nah. I think I'm ready to throw in the towel on that idea. Nico: Hmph... It didn't take much to get you to quit. Kotori: Nope. I changed my mind. Now I think it's better for both sides if we just try to enjoy one another's company every day. Rin: I mean, I wouldn't like it if someone tried to force me to learn something either. Nozomi: Probably not! Maybe they were telling you that the whole time, and once you got to know each other better, you finally understood. Alpaca M: Haaww. Hanayo: I may not be able to speak alpaca, but there are moments when I sense what they're trying to tell me. Hanayo: Hee, hee... You too, right Kotori? Kotori: Definitely!
